They can offer information and support in a variety of ways, practical, physical, emotional and financial. Find a support group for Prostate Cancer
It can be really useful to speak to other people who know how you are feeling because they have been there too. Speaking to those who have a lived experience of cancer can be a great source of comfort. Many support groups also invite speakers or have medical staff in attendance, so can be a great resource to help you on your cancer journey. Here are some local support groups you may be interested in.

1 in 4 Sheffield Prostate Cancer Support Group
SACMHA, Breinburg Court, 263 Pitsmoor Road, Sheffield S3 9AQ
This support group was established in 2022, with the knowledge that 1 in 4 men of Black, African or Caribbean heritage will get prostate cancer in their lifetime.
The group is open to black men and their families and offers peer support from those with lived experience, to others at any stage, pre or post diagnosis.
The group meets on the first Tuesday of every month from 12.30pm-2.30pm.

This is a peer support group for younger men and their partners who are living with or affected by prostate cancer. There’s no age limit, however this group is tailored for those who are either employed or haven’t reached their state pension age. This is a space where you can offload and talk about issues such as family, finance and relationships; aspects that might not affect older men and their families as much.
6.30pm – 8.30pm on 4th Wednesday of the month. First meeting is Wednesday 22nd January 2025.

Don’t Be The One – New prostate cancer support group for black men coming soon

This support group, funded by Macmillan, will hold it’s first meeting at 2pm on Wednesday 19 February 2025, following the successful launch of our Don’t Be The One campaign in October 2024 – see our Don’t Be The One page for more details.
Details of future support group meetings will be decided at the first meeting.
The group aims to create a better lived experience for African Caribbean men living with prostate cancer through community based intervention, learning and solutions.

Let us help take the fear out of prostate cancer. We meet quarterly on a Saturday from 2 – 4pm. There’s a guest speaker at each meeting, usually a medical professional, followed by Q & A, informal discussion and social time.
